Project D
Acoustic assessment of noise complaint from residents adjacent to new Standby generation facility at Hospital Energy centre.
Project D Description
An acoustic report was provided to the client with suggestions of noise mitigation measures to be employed to reduce noise impact to local residents.
Target level reduction: To remove a Tonal Disturbance at specific NSR
Total reduction achieved: Tonal influence removed at specified receptor, and all other NSR’s
Project Scope
- Acoustic Survey of site
- Acoustic survey of receptor levels
– Assessment of Trouble Frequencies - Acoustic Report of installation and proposed mitigation measures
- Noise mapping of generators to establish breakout
- Assessment of site and local noise levels post improvement works
Site Assessment
Initial issues from local resident complaints
- High levels at specific distances / directions
Exhaust Noise
- Highly reverberant field
- Directing noise into enclosed area
- Tonal effect
After treating the reverberant field we then have a clear disturbing frequencies at receptors and directional.
Analysis of flue termination levels show low performance of exhaust silencer selection at specific frequencies.
Cross reference to Engine Firing Order
Cause:
Silencers selected for Inline Cylinder alignment and NOT for V-Form Engine
Solution / Fix:
To replace secondary silencer with alternative Absorptive/Reactive silencer in larger diameter.
