Project B
Acoustic Treatment of Generator Canopies due to noise complaint at residents local to an 8MWe Capacity Market / STOR Power Generation Facility
Project B Description
RODEng Consulting LLP employed to carry out acoustic survey of 8MWe Power Generation Site and provide noise mitigation to reduce the noise level at receptor based positions and reduce specific disturbing frequencies to 5dBB below background.
Focus on local Environmental Health Officer interface due to noise complaints from Sensitive Receptors (NSR’s)
Focus on cost and specified materials.
Target level reduction: 10dB requirement
Total reduction achieved: 11.4dB
Project Scope
- Acoustic Survey of site
- Acoustic survey of receptor levels
-Comparison to Planning Approval Levels
-Assessment of Trouble Frequencies. - Noise mapping of generators to establish breakout
- Acoustic Treatment and Mitigation Methods
- Supply, Installation and Validation of Acoustic Treatment
- Local Authority and Planning Validation with Independent Acoustic Consultant
-Peter Brett Associates (Manchester Office)
Site Assessment
- Receptor levels are above planning as overall dBA
- Receptor levels demonstrate specific 100Hz and 200Hz Tonal factors
- Tonal zones prevalent on site (distances coincide with wavelength @ 100Hz)
- Low Frequency Breakout from Canopy
- Low frequency tonal noise from exhaust discharges of canopies
- Low frequency breakout from canopy bases
-(Fuel tanks normally empty due to direct feed from bulk tanks)
Site proposals
- Acoustic Barrier internal to site to be effective from farthest generators
- Acoustic Absorption to barriers
- Canopy Insulation Upgrade
- Canopy Duct & Inlet Lining
- Canopy Seal upgrades
- Baseframe/Basetank Breakout Treatment
- Exhaust Silencer Treatment
